About Me:
i'm a newbie and jump into this vermiecompost thing by coincidence and out of curiousity. Am experimenting with 4 boxes of 1 box (5x3x3ft) with anything n everything foodstuff full of all kinds of worms, 1 plastic box (2x1x1.5ft) with cattle waste treated with EM n only red worms in it, 1 plastic box (2x1x1.5ft) with sheep waste treated with EM n only malaysian blue in it and lastly 1 box (2x1x1.5ft) with horse manure trested with EM n only african night crawlers in it. Apart from the main menu of animal waste, i have mixed them with equal amount of cocopeat, banana peels, coconut waste, and sea grass+weeds all mash up using a household blender (phew!).

ust out of curiosity beb! Read alot about vermicomposting n i finally realise, i might just as well try out my own, with the help of EM of course. I'm not into bisness neither full time vermicomposting nor vermiculture. Just hobbyist. since u knew that there are bountiful stuff being thrown away DAILY in our country eg coconut husk, banana peeling (fried banana seller), sugar cane husk (from the sugar cane juice seller), coconut debries (after they have squeeze out the milk) and the sea grass/weed that being wash ashore daily at my place, i might as well try and c whether it can reduce those waste ended up filling the landfill. So far so good. This morning i saw a lot of eggs in my big bin (where i place all the 4 types of worms). Yes i'm a happy man but on the sad side, my other bin is being attack with the red ants. So the whole morning was bz transferring the worms to their new boxes. The red ants, i flooded the box with water and drown em all, including the centripedes and sum tiny insects. Luckily a have spare boxes full of cattle waste, in preparation prior receiving a shipment of worms from Bandung Indonesia and Zamboanga Mindanao Philippines. The worms settles down nicely n quickly in their boxes. will check on them again later this evening.

Hi Wan,
Nice to know. I'm from Malaysia too.
Interesting mixture of bedding you have there.
Any specific reason why you use different bedding for different worms?

Hi Susan. Thanks for yr input. Yes u is rite, the perionyx excavatus is most suitable for our climate. 1 obvios n immediate observation is that they prefer the cattle waste than the sheep/goat. THEY WRIGGLE THEIR WAY OUT OF THE SHEEP/GOAT WASTE BOXE, but immediately borows into the cattle and horse dung. In the multi-national/international boxe, he he he, surprisingly and contrary to reports, THEY MIXED/MINGLE WELL! They dont cluster among the nationals. Maybe it too early to conclude. I'm keeping close eye on that boxe, if there any sign of the perionyx excavatus revolution. Anyway, i'm confuse by cotradicting reports about perionyx. In some report i come across, it says that the size is small 1 - 2 inches. However mine is about 4 - 6 inches and the same goes to some pictures posted in the www, and most, if not all, are from CONUS, california and arizona in particular. Even some are sticking to perionyx rather than the reds. http://inlinethumb52.webshots.com/32947/1085587126040640785S600x600Q85.jpg looking forward to more valuable exchange of info among us and this community

Welcome! It will be a while before you can answer this question, but if you see a difference in the performance between the types of worms, please let us know. I'm in Hawaii where our only choice is perionyx excavatus or Malaysian Blues. Some say they're better than what the folks on the mainland of the US usually use, red wigglers. The downside of the blues is they don't tolerate cold temperatures, which obviously isn't a problem for either of us!
