Profile Information

When did you start composting with worms?
July 18, 2008
How were you introduced to vermicomposting?
I had a vermicomposter back in the early 1990's but by mother threw my worms out when I went on vacation.
What do your worms like to eat?
So far, I started off this new colony with bananas, sweet potatoes, carrots, beet greens...
What kinds of worms do you have?
1/ 2 lb of Red wrigglers from Cathy's Composters - http://www.cathyscomposters.com/products.html
What worm bins do you use?
I just started them off in the compost bin until I can get or make a proper indoor bin.
How many pounds of garbage do your worms recycle each week?
I will soon find out.
About Me:
I decided to try vermicomposting again to introduce my daughter, Violet Kiwi, to the joys of worms and composting. She's only 1yr old but a curious girl. I noticed that Violet eats quite a bit of food and wastes a lot as well and I thought that having a vermicomposter would help encourage better composting. I also want to start a colony for my father's garden.

The worms are still alive! I haven't decided yet. I love the kambha terracotta pots but it's not available here. There's a guy in Quebec that makes a wooden composter out of Spruce and then I might consider the Worm Factory for it's compactness.

Dorna, how are your worms doing now after your first week? Have you decided what sort of bin you want to set up yet? Or do you think you'll convert your composter into a warm winter bed?

:) welcome! I didn't see you in the Ontario group, but I think if you go to it's page there should be a button somewhere on there to "join"!
