Hi asha... Today I took first step in making my own clay worm farm sculptures and met with the guy who can throw big pots. His price is a bit high, but will see....so excited... Tomorrow we start to make our first one. I will not copy daily dumps designs, but use them as inspiration for my own ones....Everyone seems very interested in them and hopefully they will sell. as they wont be cheap- about R2500... (= approx 165 british Pounds) How does that compare with Daily dumps prices? They will be garden artworks too....

Hi Asha Thanks for the encouragement. I amvery happy that I am starting to have friends whom I can ask help with regards to this. As of now, I am still preparing for the worms before they come to its abode. Thanks for the advice. Your garden looks great and your worm bin is very good. thanks for pictures, I got ideas and how the worms look like.

Actually the weight is not that bad- but size and weight together makes it tricky as the plastic bins sort of get stuck together and then you need another set of hands to separate them. occasionally I have to check the bottom one that collects worm juices and rescue any worms there. I am very strong as clay work is often heavy- packing kilns and carrying tiles and mosaics- but I still battle with my homemade worm farm made from big plastic boxes... I do want to change to the smaller ones...I will see about making my own clay pots though!! when I get time...

Hi Asha, thanks for your message. the picture is of a stone which I mosaiced and then my husband built it into a garden wall. It was an experiment to see if my mosaics could withstand the outdoor elements and so far it has done very well- 2 years and no sign of any problem. I will look at that website for inspiration- thanks....
I like that the size makes it easy to manage- and they look nice in the garden.... my home made bins are just too heavy for me to handle on my own.

Hi Asha, just been admiring your clay pots again. I think I am going to try and make some of these as they look nice and seem to work so well. Any chance you can delete the message I sent you previously as I think I was being a bit indiscreet and forgetting that anyone can read these posts?

I am no expert on identification of worm. Some of your photos, however, do look like PEs to me. I just sent some PEs to Jeannene by mail. I have never shipped worms before and she and I are hopeful they make it. She could not find PEs from a grower and so I told her we would give it a try. You may have seen some of my posts on BSF. At first I really disliked the BSF. They are not the most appealing creatures. Over time, however, I have read that they can be beneficial and they do no doubt help break down the organic material for the worms. I have come to accept them as part of the natural ecosystem of the worm world. Others have written that they have them too and I think they are common in outdoor systems.

Good to see you on outdoor vermicomposters. I was going to ask you (or I may have already) are you using India Blue worms (PEs) or Red worms (EFs)?

Hi Asha, thanks for your nice words about my worm artwork!
I LOVE your stacking terra cotta worm system. It seems that this type of system could be made into totem pole-like garden sculptures. Worms would be hidden inside of outdoor sculptures... interesting. I'm really glad to learn about your composting system, thanks!

Looks like there are innumerable ways to do this. Joel is using old truck tires and as you say Jenni has a really innovative system. Poonnam really seems like an interesting woman. She wrote me and I was impressed with her philosophies on helping others and our planet. Although the plastic bins work pretty well they are not aesthetically beautiful and I tend to lean toward wood or something like your terracotta. I saw that you noticed Amy's digestive table. She is quite the artist! Keep up the good work for the planet and have fun. I am getting 5 pounds of African nightcrawlers today. I think my 3 year old granddaughter will be around when I put them in the concrete block bin. Can't wait to see the look on her face when she sees all those worms!! She loves feeding the others. Take care. Dwayne

I see that others on this site admire your terracotta pots. I did write to the folks at dailydump to see if they were sold here in the US. They are not, which was a disappointment. They are like art. The dailydump people were very nice and they are doing a great thing over there. Did they design the pots you are using for composting or vermicomposting? It appears they work for both. You have a nice garden. Dwayne
