How many people have a worm bin / do vermicomposting (composting with worms)?

Four preschoolers are playing in the kitchen center, making pretend meals, filling up the shopping cart, (using the credit card), and washing dishes. They've started playing "worm bin"! They take some of the food to an imaginary worm bin. We had discussed adding eggshells and banana peels to the class worm bin during circle time, so they were taking lots of eggs to the imaginary worms, plus lots of pizza. It's a learning process, but still a fun development!

That is so nice Nancy. It is really a wonderful thing to introduce children to such environmental awareness. My five year old calls herself my gardening-partner :)

Five is a great age to be a partner on gardening, composting, and recycling. If something becomes a habit at age five, it's likely to last a long time. Showing my age, we got seat belts for our Chevy when I was about five. My dad installed them, and they probably weren't very safe. Still, my parents insisted we be buckled up. To this day it's nearly impossible for me to be in a moving car unbuckled. Your child may feel the same way about recycling and conserving water...
