I did my first one today. I did the holes on each side spaced 2 inches apart like you suggested. When I went back to do the 2nd set of holes I just put them between the existing holes so I ended up with a hole about every inch.

Since I had two pieces of the PVC here I was able to do one for a 4 ft and an 8 ft raised bed for less than $5. It took me longer to go to Home Depot to get the stuff than it did to make them.

You're right, in fact drilling holes in different directions works much better. That's what I did on my latest version of this thing. Drill holes straight down the middle, then at about 45 degrees off each side. You can even drill all around and water your beds vertically.

Try drilling holes in several different patterns to get the coverage you need. PVC tubing is cheap and comes in ten foot lengths, so experiment with size, number of holes, and various patterns. My very latest version is an eight foot piece laid over my low tunnel/cold frame to provide irrigation that way. Let me know what you come up with.

That is a great solution for watering raised beds. I bought my supplies and am ready to give it a try. It looked like you drilled holes on only one side. Is there any reason not to drill them on both sides so it would give wider coverage?
