Its 60x it is a relatively cheap microscope and only has three settings. The mites may have come in on some steer compost i bought for the garden. A couple weeks before i transferred the worms to the FT i ran out of food. The freezer was empty. So the worms got a cubic foot of steer compost. Just to hold them over.

There was a big thunder storm that went through a few days ago that drenched the countryside and soaked the FT and I have just started seeing the usual brown mites. It will be interesting to see if they disappear as everything starts drying out again.

Eve, that's sooooo cool. What is the magnification factor of the worm pic (apppr.)? And appropriate audio too.

Hah! Genius music choice. I couldn't think of anything better.

I don't think I've ever seen mites like that in my bin. All I have are the round brown ones. Then again, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.

I need to get one of these microscope cameras. You see some pretty awesome stuff.

I had never seen these mites before. I had to search long and hard to find one. I looked through a tablespoon of compost and only found the few that i got in the video. The baby worm was less then a half inch long.
