Hi everybody!

Each day, when I check out my bin or add food to it, some worms are found crawling against the wall( see attached). I don't know it is problem or not. Are they trying to escape? Thanks a lot!

Usually two reasons are the main cause of this. To wet...or they are looking for more to eat....gotta potty train them :)

Thanks Rob, it seems that it is too wet , according to your comments. Because there is much food on the surface and I have less than 100 pieces of worm only in a bin.

How are the worms now, David?

It looks a little better, as I put some dry food (  dry tea ground) in the bin . But each time I check the the bin, several little worms ( less than 1 cm) were found under the lip, I have to help them back to the bin by a little stick. It happens a lot, what surprised me is that there no any cocoon attached on the lip. It will take 3days for the baby worm to get the food. It that normal at your bin?

When I see worms try to escape I think bedding is too wet. I add more shredded paper to help draw the moisture out of the main part of the worm's world. The extra paper provides a place for the worms to move to if they wish to have more dry place.

David, I see your located in China.   Are there a lot of vermicomposters in China?  Also if your temps are below 60 degrees the worms are going to move much slower, and they may try to escape.

Thanks for your attention. There are some people who raise worms here, but not so many.( especially in north China where I am).I maintain a indoor bin( foam one to keep warm in winter), room temperature is around 60 degree day an night. 98%  of them keep in the bedding most of the time, It seems that they want to find a place to lay the egg. I am not sure, bu the fact tells me most of the baby worms were born under the lip.
