Back for More Punishment I guess! LOL

it's been two years. I had given up. something always went wrong and killed my worms.  I've been aching to try again, but with life in the way I just couldn't. Now I have my own place and I'm ready to try again. Someone offered to give me some worms but I haven't heard back in months so that lead dried up. I don't work out of town anymore so I haven't been back to my favorite gas station/worm source. It seems like I'm going to have to order worms to get started again as I can't seem to find anyone who wants to share their worms. I know I'd share if I had an excess. Just like with my Kombucha scobys and my milk kefir grains. Good things should be shared with others! Anyway, I've been looking at an instructible for a flow through worm bag and it seems to have had success so I might try that next. I'm sick of plastic bins that don't work well.

Sorry for all your misfortunes!! Good luck with your new endeavors! Sounds like you're looking at something like a worm inn! Haven't tried one, but I hear when they're used properly, they can be pretty incredible. Keep us posted!

I am very curious as to what happened to your worms.  Was the bin too wet, too acidic, too much food?  They say the bin shouldn't smell yet mine smells.  They say you will never see a dead worm...I've seen 6.  I have a 10 gal. plastic bin, thin layer of peat on bottom (absorb moisture) and shredded paper and leaves for bedding.  The moisture seems fine but I do have a lot of spider mites.

Hey John, the thing that seemed to coincide with my worm deaths were invasions of flying insects. I don't know if they were attacking the worms or competing for food. but they did fine while I froze my scraps but as soon as I put a fresh, unfrozen scrap it, Invasion!
