If there is still a lot of food in the bin you may want to wait a few more days before you feed them. As far as the plant sprouting - it really isn't a problem. I just mix them back into the bin and they eventually break down. I have used my bin t...

Welcome to the addictive world of worming! The most common mistake that newbies make (and the rest of us occ. too) is overfeed the bin. The worms eat the bacteria that eat the rotting food. If the rotting goes faster than the worms can keep up wi...

Hi! Just wanted to say welcome to the site... I've found it to be the holy grail of worm information and knowledgeable people... Potato peels and coffee grounds are good, visit here for more http://wiki.vermicomposters.com/wormbin/What_to_feed_your_worms (I've found mine really like watermelon rinds) - It'd prolly be a good idea to read through the rest of the wiki to get yourself going, and as Susan mentioned they have videos on here, and on youtube which are also very informative.

From the look of it, if your yellow tidy cats bin was your beginning starter box, your doing just fine - you've got the right idea. Totes work good as well - it all depends on the size of bin you want. The bigger the bin, the more worms, the more food you'll have to put into it. Good luck and have fun ;) If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'm a somewhat newbie too, but I'll try to help.

I check my worm bin earlier today and I found that some of my worms have gotten nice and fat.I also notice that a bunch of the eggs have also hatched, but I notice that there was still some food in the bin and I also notice that some plants have started sprouting from the left over potatoe peels,Iassuming that plants sprouting is a good sign of healty soil, but should I be concern that theres still food in there. And I was also wondering could I feed them cut up pieces of apples!
