The compost process requires: * a sufficiently large pile with a balance of green and brown matter * water * lots and lots of air. Lots and lots. That is why you turn it. Otherwise you get anaerobic bacteria and it stinks.

If you're reluctant to use the VC because of a mite infestation try storing them in an uncovered tub for a while, maybe stir it up every few days or so. I think you'll find that once it dries out a little and conditions in the VC are less of what ...

Hi there,

I saw that you make ceramic worm composters. They look beautiful, and exactly what I'm looking for to start my own worm composting. Do you ship them to the US, or do you know of anyone in the US making a similar item?

Cheers,

James

Hi Marylou

Just LOVE your ceramic composter - wish there was a way we could import them to the UK - people will go CRAZY for them!

Also love the "Afsaal" tile you made for Oom Danie! I might have to commission my own in some time to come ;o)

Kind regards

Gwen

Hi Marylou,

I need to buy a few more worms from oom Danie
as I am in Knysna on Friday.

I don't have his address however & don't seem to
be able to reach him on the landline.

My email address is louisarthur4@gmail.com if you would
be so kind as to drop me a line.

Enjoy the heat,

Hi Marylou
How did it go at the market this weekend. Did you get a lot of interest in your bins? I was just looking again at the pictures and they really look lovely. I would look stunning on a covered patio and would not have to be relegated to a back corner of the garden.

I can believe that they are quite time consuming to make. I don't think it would be too much at around R 2500. The nice thing about the pots is that they can be used for more than just wormeries. Once again... I like.

Hi Marylou - I guess I'm just full of surprises! Looking forward to seeing your creation. I think R2500 would probably be acceptable when you consider the cost of plastic bins - Garden World in Jhb is selling a 50L bin with 3 trays and starter worms for R1330. The idea of the terracotta ones is unique and I think the cost of transporting it to the purchaser may be a bit of a drawback. I suppose I will have to come and play golf on the garden route so that I can collect one from you and not have to pay a courier

Yes he is a quite a handful too.

His name is Clark, after Clark Kent of Superman fame. I went shopping one day and left the windows down. Found him in the car when i got back. Figured if he could fly he must be a supper cat.

About Me:
I love gardening and worm castings are the best. My vegetable garden is doing very well since giving it vermicompost and vermitea. When I am not gardening or playing with worms, I am an artist that makes handmade tiles and mosaics and ceramic earthworm composters. My goal is to get the whole town worm farming, and then the closest town will be next.
