Vermicomposting Workshop

I just recently completed a Vermicomposting workshop with a friend at the library in Marquette, MI. We partnered with Northern Micigan University's NCLL. It was a fun and well received program.

Worms are doing great. It's been 3 months now.

Was contacted today by a person in my area wanting info and assistance starting a worm bin. Very cool! I will call her back and see what I can help her with.

Worms doing well

My worms seem to be doing very well. Am going to go play with my worms looking for eggs to collect for an upcoming workshop I will be presenting with a friend.

A couple weeks ago I put in half of a honey dew melon that I unfortunately let go bad in the fridge. Didn't check on it until a couple days ago to find that it was completely gone. They love it!

Happy worming all!

What's New?

Lets see...got my scrap pail under the sink and put some scraps in. I put some shredded newspaper on the bottom to soak up any juices.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I saw some sort of fat larvae in my bin. Well they started to hatch out as flies and started showing up in my windows. I picked up a fly swatter and took care of the problem..took a few days to get them all. All gone for now!

Worm Update

Went out of town for the weekend and my worms were just fine. My compost pail arrived too.

I checked on the worms this afternoon. Lookin good. The melon is completely gone. The banana is disappearing, it's in pieces now. I added more food that I kept in the fridge: bit of onion a orange peel, sweet potato and some asparagus. I will be putting more melon in at some point. I'm thinking that the food in the fridge doesn't have a good start breaking down. Perhaps the scraps I'll put in… Continue

Purchased a food scrap container

Did some surfn' on the net and found a pretty good deal on a food scrap pail with filter. From what I read they work pretty good and my folks have one so they must be worth the money. I guess I'll find out.

Also added some sweet potato to my bin and when I peeked they hadn't noticed it yet. I'll have to take a longer peek at a later date.
