Okay, so I'm show-boating. This is my first actual hand crafted Worm Mansion(s). The plans are derived from the plan of the great Bentley Christie's VB24. It's just a frame now, but I'm so close to…Continue

Stu replied to Jeffrey L's discussion suggestions for inside of box in the group Continuous Flow/Flow Through Worm Composting
"It works good, and the moisture issue is very valid! I don't keep a lid on my bins. Some of my newer bins also have some 'air-holes' on the sides that have a layer of landscaping cloth between the plastic and the bin. Air flow is…"

Stu replied to Jeffrey L's discussion suggestions for inside of box in the group Continuous Flow/Flow Through Worm Composting
"bravo! Ideally that sounds pretty cool. I spent an extra 20 on 8mil plastic and 8 bucks on sprayt adhesive, but it will last me for at least 30 more bins...if'n I had the room for that many ;("

"Spray adheasive and 8mil Black Plastic...The kind that makes you want to roll up in it and say in a Lucky Strikes voice..."I'm Batman" A single layer of the plastic flatly(!!!) stuck to the inside of the bin will add decades...and…"

Stu replied to dermy's discussion Composting With Isopods
"I actually ran in to them yesterday while doing some yard work. I have them in a big boiler pot with a very loose lid. I added a couple handfuls of coco-coir and they immediately came out to see what the hell it was. They are curious creatures to…"

Stu replied to Rich Feiller's discussion worm harvester selection
"The sander was dropped years ago, so the clips that hold the sandpaper on are useless. I'm thinking about attaching it upside-down to the bottom of a ?X? frame made with 2X4s and hardware cloth. I figured this would only vibrate without much…"

"Howdy and welcome, Mrs. Gordon! This group is really cool. The members are nice and helpful. It all comes down to what you want to do. There are some great minds in this forum. I did a lot of research for the better part of a decade, and…"

"Hey Glen! Sounds pretty freakin' cool! I think your best bet woulld be to use 2.5 inches instead of 3...I think 3 is an extra 1/2in of screw doen't need to load. With actual size of the board never being a true 2"x4", the…"

Steve Lambert replied to Stu's discussion Build-a-bin: How do I finish?
"Larry makes some great points about humidity and pests that nibble or consume wood.  With advice from a forum you always have to take it, think about it as it applies to your situation, AND, how it will work out in your environment and weather.…"

Stu replied to Stu's discussion Build-a-bin: How do I finish?
"My lids are basically wooden frames with a dark gardeners cloth stretched across it. This allows lots of air flow while blocking out light. I don't think air flow will be an issue. I'm going to do a little research to see if certain colors…"

George replied to Stu's discussion Build-a-bin: How do I finish?
"That makes sense about keeping the FTs open at both ends. I just bought the plans to a VC 24 and am going to build it as soon as it stops raining. The plans call for a lid with hinges. Why would it have that if it's better to keep it open…"
