A group for people who use the Wriggly Wranch (and others stackable tray) worm bin to talk about / share experiences. I figured there might be enough intricacies specific to the Wriggly Wranch (and every other model of worm bin) to warrant a group

Hello! Just started up my bin last week and have already had to make some changes due to escapees. I found this site searching for more information and decided to join up.

HELLO !!! First snow and first woodfire for the year on Broadwell Hill. So glad, albeit a little concerned, about how warm it has been here but it did give me a bit more time to get my overwinter worm beds/trenches together. I know the little ones...

I just spent the last little while harvesting my worms & removing any food I could find. I quit feeding a couple of days ago & will do as you suggest, letting the sick bin sit, seeing if I get any hatchlings or missed any juvenile worms. Here's to...

You can harvest your worms and move them into a new bin. You may get a large part of them to recover by removing them form the situation. Don't toss out the sick bin. Stop feeding it bin and let it sit. If there is any identifiable food items in ...

===========================================

I "discovered" worm composting in spring of 2008 and have been fascinated by it every since. Since I couldn't find anyone I personally knew who composted with worms nor did my friends have much interest in hearing about them.. i got really curious if there were any other vermicomposters "out there" in the world so I set up the vermicomposters map and this community to try to find out. Through working on this website I've met so many great people.. it has really been a great experience. Thanks! Please let me know if you have any suggestions about how to continue to spread the word about vermicomposting.

Continuous flow liner experiment.

I'm still "recovering" from my Worm bin sludge situation I took all the sludge and put it in a bucket on its own and skimmed off any excess water every couple days until it wasn't flooded. After several weeks what was in the bucket started to dry out to the point that it looked like normal VC. Plus I could see lots of worm trails / turned VC where the worms that were still in there were working their magic. So, I… Continue

Worm bin sludge situation

I looked in the bottom tray of my flow through worm bin a couple days ago and noticed there was a log of semi-solid material in the bottom tray and tons of worms. It seemed like they were living fine in that soup, but yesterday I decided to try to clean it up and get the worms back into the main tray.

This is what the bottom tray looked like while I was cleaning it out:

Nightcrawlers from Bait to Bin

I tried to learn how to fish over Labor day weekend during a camping little camping trip at Clearlake State Park in California. After 2 days and about 6 hours of fishing I came up empty handed although my sister who was also just learning caught a 6 and a half pound catfish on her first cast!

In any case, the bait shop had set us up with a 2 dozen nightcrawlers and we only ended up using 6 of them.... leaving me with 18 leftover.... so I decided to toss them in a 1 quart plastic bin with some k… Continue

Corn cob n' husk

It has been a couple days since I added my diced corn cob to my worm bin. I put them in the corner in case the worms didn't like them for some reason. When I checked it today lots of worms were hanging out in that corner so far so good.. although I suppose it will get much more interesting a couple weeks down the road when I can actually see if the cobs are being processed faster than they would if they were… Continue

Hi Steven! I was checking Bentley's great website and saw a link to a pdf file: Manual of On-Farm Vermicomposting and Vermiculture
By Glenn Munroe
Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada
It's a great source, can we add it to WormWiki?

Hi Steven. The mini ceramic, green worm pots are working well, but they arent processing any new food at all. I possibly need to add more worms, but i didnt want to overcrowd them....the pots are only about 25cm in diameter and about12cm deep. I will add some more worms and food tomorrow and let you know. I am busy with 3rd version which has 4 tiers, and a bit bigger. It is going to be AMAZING and is already sold to my sister.

I have noticed that this social network is exploding in the number of people that join. Congratulations! I was looking for a vermicomposting group/blog site on the internet and this was the only one that I could find. You may have started the ball rolling for a lot of future worm composters.

Hi Steven, great site! I was wondering when you started it. It seems to be growing very fast, 50 new people just since i joined in late Jan. I was a forum virgin and this has been a fun and helpful start...now I see why people blog and join these types of sites.
