Thanks Beth & Dave, I think I really do need to start another bin or harvest some of what I have. I want to try a stackable bin next to see the difference.

Renee, Definitely start another bin. You could use some of the worms from your first bin. If you end up with more vermicompost than you can use, there are a lot of community gardens around or friends and neighbors that would love to have it. Beth

Hi Stephen,
How is the bathtub worm bin doing? Is there only drainage through the drain hole? I don't know if your worms will go down to the bottom. The red wigglers usually don't go very deep. Have you seen them at the bottom? We'd love to hear how it's going.

As for the castings, when they are brown and crumbly and unrecognizable, that's when we remove them.

Hi Stephen,
We'll send a better reply later. We've been really swamped lately. Could you tell us though....how deep is all the stuff in the bathtub. We're concerned that it might not get enough airflow. Does it only have the small drain hole at the bottom or is the whole bottom open and covered with a screen?

Hey Stephen-
I've been traveling for a while. Sorry to take so long to get back. There are many worm fattening products, but corn meal seems to work just fine. Not to mention that it is cheap.

if it is bought at walmart then it is proboly precomposted butt there is a posibility that the animals that produced the manure could have had a deworm medication i heard from some guy that you should just poot the manure in 1 side of the bin to see what happens

I haven't tried any fating recipes. I don't added much of anything in the way of grains unless you count bit of bread and cat food. Its what i get is what they get.

Mass reproduction: I have read that adding cardboard helps stimulate reproduction. For me that is good i have a pile of boxes. Also, i hear that most natural bedding will help, leaves, manure if you can get them.
