This is a very good idea. I did the same sort of thing when I harvested my Wriggly Wranch, except I set one tray on top of another (bottom one had new bedding and food in it, top one was the one I needed to harvest.) The sun really does make them cr…
I had to go way way back to find a thread on harvesting. I just read a post on gardenweb's vermicomposting form and after finishing it though you guys might be interested too. I know we're not supposed to post the same info/questions on 2 sites, but…
I've had mini-bins off an on for a while to see how they do.
My most successful was putting 50 worms into the clear salad container that baby spinach comes in (250 gram). I did this on Nov 27. On Feb.22/09, I harvested and had

About Me:
I used to vermicompost a few years ago when I was married and had a house. Marriage broke up, house and worms had to go. I got into it again a few months ago, even though I'm now in an apartment. I was hesitant, because I didn't want any smell, or fruit flies. So far my bins are a resounding success. No smell, no unwanted bugs, no one even knows they are there unless I tell them.

I have 20 more bins and there is about 1000 ENC in each box ,i'm now looking for about 1000ft2 place, try to build a commercial compost company i don't know if anyone of our group interested in this idea.
Sherry, I missed seeing your ENC question somehow. Didn't mean to ignore you! Since it's really late for me, I'll reply to you tomorrow... but basically ENCs = good!
hey Sherry, I have to admit, I was lurking on your page earlier today when I saw you were here in Ontario! I'm in Cobourg... about an hour east of toronto :)
I saw you were doing the indoor bin thing too! I love my bins... even though I'm still really new to the whole thing.. and very impatient!
Yes! that big boy (and another) in the picture are the main food to the worms at my house. Buns get the greens... worms get the poo. It's a great system! It did take the worms a bit of time to get used to it, but now they are thriving on the stuff.
I really like the worm room you've got set up.. what a great idea!
Sherry,
Boy, your popping up at all my favorite vermicomposter web sites :) Great to see ya here. How are things going for you?
I saw your post/photos about your new operation, and as commented, you look so organized and professional.
Sherry, I have a question about your homemade bin... the purple one. Do you have any problems with worms escaping the through the lower holes?
I started 2 "experimental" bins with just a few worms and I'm trying to figure out whether extra aeration holes below the bedding surface are worthwhile. Thanks!
Hi, Sherry. I've been scanning craigslist for people getting rid of compost bins in my local area, but no luck so far.
Your worm room setup is very inspiring. I like the way that everything is so organized on your work table. My worm corner is a mess right now with spare trays, cardboard pieces, a paper bag of shredded paper, & miscellaneous stuff strewn about. I think you've inspired me to organize things better over the weekend.
