I'm going to raise some Euros for the first time and was wandering about them escaping. I had a problem with my red wigglers. I think it was because of the high humidity in my greenhouse. I started leaving the lid off at night and putting a dim li...
Mine too. But like anything else about worms, I'm happy to learn new things. :) See, to me it looks like somethings wrong with my smiley face. lol?
I'm new to this forum and have enjoyed reading posts. Glad to be here.
just a note..I have had my euros for a couple years now and they a really fantastic fishing worms. Once they are settled in the bin you can really look at them to your hearts desire. Mine seem to thrive on being center stage at least once a week. ...
... Organic Material. I think seems more correct than just "food" because it may make people think "our food" when really, just about any organic material will decompose and provide what compost worms need to live off of. I have one tray in my WF ...
My worm lingo must be off, I can't for the life of me think of what you guys mean with adding OM. Glad to hear you've had success with a small light Selene. I'll have to remember that if I have to bring mine in this winter.
I appreciate everyone that's replied to my question! Thank you! I've been leaving the lid off and putting a small light on it at night and I haven't had nary a one escapee!! Not even down in the catch-basin!
I try not to disturb my squirms very mu...
That being said, I'm guessing, you'd want go with a big a bin as you have space for so that you can add OM without disturbing the system as much as possible.
Euros are in general very temperamental and don't like being disturbed. Remember worms have a very basic central nervous system that is geared towards self preservation. Constant disruptions to their habitat means that their safety is threatened a...
I've noticed my euros started exploring a lot more when I was checking up on them by going through the bedding. These are the original worms I put in the bin, so I'm hoping the next generation will think the world isn't much bigger then the bin.
Thanks Michele and Kentucky Jay! I know they're more prone to wandering than red wigglers. It's usually around 10-12 euros that I find outside the bin. And I'm not always in time to save any of them. It hurts my heart to see them dead all the time...
I had the same problem with my Euros and agree with Michele's solution. Leave the lid off, and at night just leave a light on over them. It doesn't have to be bright, it can be something small like a desk lamp. Try that for a few days, then put th...
Euros are just more naturally wanderers so if it's just a few and not a mass exodus I wouldn't worry too much. However, I found with mine when I left the lid off (I have rubbermaid bins) I had fewer escapees (or else they just don't leave any evid...
