Great idea. There were groups, like the kitchen gardners, who were reaching out to the white house prior to the garden going in there. I wonder if any of those folks are still in contact and if they included worm farming in thier recommendations. ...

Restarting my bin

Last time I wrote I had added bread heels to my home bin, and got interesting moldy growths. I'm embarassed to admit I did something very dumb sometime in early September. I was cleaning the kitchen pantry and found an old bag of a protein drink powder that my jogging son used to drink. I assumed (always a bad thing) the powder was made of soy, and dumped it in the worm bin.

What a heel

Don't know what I was thinking when I tossed the end piece of the whole wheat bread into the worm bin. Ever since I've had strange growths on the sides of the bin. They look like soggy cave formations.

Home security worms

My worms have had several unsupervised party weekends lately. I've left them in charge of the condo to attend a college graduation, and while I moved my father into assisted living. I've returned home to find the red wigglers only slightly hungover. None of my neighbors have complained about loud music playing at all hours of the day and night. The only problem seems to be that the bin gets a bit soggy in my absence.

Easy time

The worms and I seem to be in a comfortable relationship. I don't worry about them. They don't worry about me.

Maybe over my Christmas break I'll separate the worms from the compost, or not. My grown sons will all be here over the holidays. If their parties run too late into the wee hours, I'll start giving guided instructional tours of my wormbin.
