You will indeed attract worms but in my experience they wont nessessarily thrive in indoor bins. some will some wont. It is a very slow process though to get enough of a mass of them
I currently have many Ikea boxes of the size 1.2 feet by 8 inches and only 6 inches deep. since my bedding is never more than 5 inches and I only keep a loose plastic on top there are no problems as excess moisture evaporates and I could always re...
Michael's the craft store has great plastic strong mesh in the cross stich isle comes in 2 sizes. I buy mine here in Canada for 69 cents and it's about 14 inches by 8 inches. I am going to be using these to make up hand sifters. As time progressed...
sounds like since you started your bin off right that you would have a good level of proper bacterial action so yes you can feed if you see that the former food placed in there is pretty much gone. Do the pocket feed method and allow the worms to ...
I am using the stacked bin system. Similar to what is in their picture on the equipment page. I bought cheap Resin shelves (from Costco in Canada) for $30 each that can handle up to 600 pounds of weight or 30 bins @ 1-1.5 lbs of worms each and the...
I think the answer is a bin that has clear sides that you can just lift a side and have view of the window. That way the worms will be in the dark other than the occasional time that the "drape" gets pulled so you can view them from a side. I have...
I find where the eggshells land that is where the worms will be hours after, so they do like them. I can also say that my finished casting must be pretty alkaline as when I have put them in plants that like acidic soil they did not like it much. S...
The problem that I encounter with the Enc's is that they are like teenagers that like to get away, lol. When I do any rusttling in the bin I have to have a light on because they like to walk off. Some people keep them together but like it has been...
maybe one once in a while mixed in may be ok, but you do run the risk of smell. I would then bury this deep and see what happens.I don't think we could ever have too many eggs here though, consider yourself blessed. Always pulverize the eggshells ...
Anisten,
when you harvested you bin, was it dry in the center? The bin I am making is 40 inches by 40 inches and 24 inches deep. I won't be starting it up for a few weeks so, at this point I can still add a pipe in the center to water it or is that over doing it?
Above the harvest chamber, I used steel cable spaced about 1 inch. The cable has some give and I was going to use a hand rake to harvest.
See Asha's photos too. That is where I got the idea to make a ceramic composter. She is from India. Search for the website "dailydump" that makes the Indian ones.
Hi maria- I added pics of the inside of the pots. Are you planning to make your own? I have since redesigned it and my 3rd version of ceramic earthworm composter will be fired soon. This one will be on metal legs and will have 4 layers
