I've read several posts where people have added rice to their bins & it generated heat. My bin is in an unheated garage. Garage temp right now is about 40 degrees so I want to generate some heat…Continue

I have bags of leaves. What is a vc trench? I can picture it in my mind but want to make sure. I think I even see it on this sight?

He also knows I like designer purses.  This is cheaper for him.  I give him gift cards for sporting goods stores .

Thanks for the encouragement John!

Did you show the kids a sampling of the bin and let them hold worms? Any advice and information from your experience would be extremely helpful.

I'm starting with 3 kids (12-16-21, 12 & 16 are high functioning autistic) and a home school mom (8 & 12 yr olds). I am using small 2" x 2" plastic containers. I've put in VC and cocoons on top that can be viewed through a flap I cut in the lid. Hopefully this keeps everything contained but allows the kids to look at the cocoons daily.

I've got 2 testers made to make sure it works while I'm gathering pictures & information for worksheets, etc.

Thanks again!

Thanks John,

Yes it is very difficult not to prod around each day. I get curious to see how much of what they've eaten. Will put a sign on top to remind myself. Mainly tryin to see how much is consumed, don't want em to go hungry lol  Have a great day/night and happy squirming!

What is the difference between African night crawler and European night crawlers? I was thinking the African might work better in FL then the European. Are they about the same size, do the compost the same? Do you have any clue?

Added more bedding to the tray today. Now the worms don't come to the top anymore. Good sign or what?
