I think what Susan has is 1/4 inch hardware cloth. I made a sifter 17in x 14in that would sit on top of a cat litter pan and my worm boxes to sift vermicompost after I separated the worms.

I started with a shoebox size plastic bin. It was really manageable and I loved being able to see the entire operation up close. Mine were able to eat a small tupperware container of food every few weeks.
