So, after looking at several sites that talk about compost tea, I am seeing that about half of the sites say to just steep the tea for several days and the other half that say that the tea must be…Continue

Cleaned out bin

So, I have loved using my worm bag because it is so forgiving however, I have found one problem with it. My ties at the bottom got to where they were so "gunked" up that i could not untie them. So, I Had to make an interim worm bin and cut the ties.

What I found really  educated me. First, I found that while I do water my worms, I was not watering them enough for the water to get to the bottom of the bin. I don't really see this as a problem as the bottom is where the…

Update on my BIn

Okay, so I checked my Bin tonight and had a pleasant surprise. I have had a worm population explosion. Or at least maybe I have just have come up to the top of the bin. Though, I do know that they have had babies because, I do see a lot of little worms that are red.

About a month after I introduced Worms into my bin, I found a couple that had died (string of pearls death) so, I went through much of the stuff in my bin to see if I could trouble shoot the problem. When I got…

They are here

So, I recieved my worms and was glad to find that between when I ordered them and the person I ordered them from they arrived on the warmest day of the year (so far) and so they seem to be in good condition.

I will post pictures in a while. Right now they are burrowing into their new home. So, I am starting with one pound of worms. I have a feeling that I am going to be building up food for them because, I have about one pound of food already rotting in their bag however,…

The Worms are Coming...the Worms are Coming

Okay,

So I got an e-mail today telling me that my worms are on their way and should be here by Wednesday or Thursday. :)

I am so excited. My bag which has some bedding and food in it has been rotting in my garage for a couple of weeks now and I am getting a hang of how much water I need to be adding. I am surprised by how earthy it smells. I did have one day of concern, I have a plastic tub on my counter that I can put my scraps into as I cook…

Nice worm bag! Looks great! I hope the hamper frame will be able to support the weight when it's full and damp?

Don't worry, it is a stop gap measure. I went to Ikea to get a steel Laundry hamper that they have and were out of stock. So, in a while I will go and get that one from them.

This one is PVC pipe and It feels sturdy but, you never can tell.

I had that problem with one I had in college, after I used it for a while they just didn't stay together very well anymore. Hope you can get a frame from Ikea soon!
