hello Janice. It's great to get kids involved with the little critters. I live in Massachusetts and have done pretty well, raising the red wigglers. I put them outside in the nice weather. If I dig down under the leaves. I can usually pull out about 50 or 60 worms every handful, so if you guys would like a few of them, let me know.
But it would be good to have a home for them before hand. I can send you a little bedding with them as well. In the mean time, you can be collecting your own food waste in the freezer. Shredded paper and leaves from outside. Grass clippings, as long as they are aged. Green stuff is usually not good as it is heat producing.
