Joined the UK group to see how others are doing it and compare notes. Fascinating that you are also South African, Gwen.

Hi Steven - what happened to the category idea? I'm a newbie and belong to some other forums where they have categories and I like the idea that you can go to a category and read up on something specific like: Bin Designs, Feeding Tips, Harvesting...
Thanks for the welcome Gwen. You have been doing this a few years and I am sure I will be seeking advice soon.
At the moment I just need a bit of patience. My worms seem content and breeding rapidly judging by the number of cocoons in the bin. I have mostly compost in the primary bin at the moment which was their home. I have added a second bin with paper and cardboard and they move between the two bins. They are no consuming much food at the moment but am adding that to the compost bin. The worms in the compost are very happy to receive it and are doing well. Will probably capture more from the compost in due course and add them to the worm bin.
How do the worms fair outside in the winter months? I was looking at the bubble wrap in focus the other day with a view to using that as insulation during the colder months.
Hi Gwen, thanks for the comments. I was inspired to make the ceramic composters by this forum- Asha (on my friends list) has some lovely ceramic composters in her garden in India. She got hers from Daily Dump. Maybe that will be easier that getting mine from SA! But mine are nicer looking I think (ha ha.) Daily Dumps designs are tried and tested and I am still battling to get the bigger version to fit into each other nicely. I am definitely still in the research and development stage.
Hi Gwen, nice to have a new "hobby" friend. We have not published the book yet, and it is not little any more (88 pages so far). We print the book on a colour lazer printer and sell it for R150 plus R20 for postage. You are more than welcome to use it for a community project, as we have done. Currently harvesting a lot of compost at our community project in Mangaung. They are also making a lot of money by selling some of the worms.
