I have quite a few spiders in my box since it is not totally air tite. They dont seem to effect my farm at all. I think they are there for the fruit flys i get some times. That has stopped since I now freeze my foods.
The gray may be a result of the paper/bedding in the bottom. I was trying to find a way to keep the worms out of the bottom collection tray in my stacking tray and tried lining the bottom with 3 sheets of corrugated cardboard. After about a month a…
I should have not built the catch tray so extended because it holds water. I have drilled some holes in it so that it does drain but still I should have kept the catch tray under the whole box.
and probably it can slide out like a drawer to make ha…
Damm eve that is a serious setup. Did you do all the work yourself? I'm extremely impressed. Looks like something from star trek. The vent holes look great, did you hand drill all that?
Welp it has been a while and Thought I would update how all this is working. Its been about a month now. The casting are starting to fall about 3 cups per week. As you can see in the photo below what the tray looks like after a few days. There are 2…
If it is a closed system you are thinking about running and temps that you are looking at. You might want to use antifreeze instead of water,or add some antifreeze to the mix. I'm not sure you will keep the water from freezing even if it is moving w…
Hi Greg,
How are you? Long time no see. Still busy with the stained glass project?
Wondering how your worms and bin are doing. Is the newpaper lining still holding?
Greg i am thinking of adding a worm bin heater group. I would like to make up a photo of different heaters people are using. May i use the photo of the radiant heating coil you posted?
Thanks Greg for your encouragement. We got the idea from your bin. My son will finish the catching tray before the school starts. I will post the pictures.
Hi Greg,
Thanks for posting the picture of the pipe heater.
The next time I go out I'll stop by at Home Depot or the like and check it out. That's the one I had in mind. Rather pricey for a worm bin.
Greg, I remember you mentioned that you have no newspaper. That's OK. And you know that you can get tons of cardboard from the grocery store.
I prefer to use cardboard from the grocery store after reading a post somewhere, the worms died after being fed cardboard. Then somebody comented that sometimes packaging get sprayed to prevent getting chewed up by mice/rats/rodent.
Hi Greg, you are doing a really fine job on your bin there Greg. Especially that ledge to regulate the air flow. I would have just taped some pieces of cardboard to close some of the holes, lol.
I didn't know what a SoniCrafter is so I looked it up. How long have you had it and are you satisfied with it. Do you use it a lot? Which set did you buy (72 piece?) and did you have to buy additional accessories to do stuff you needed to do. I am thinking to buy one. Thanks Greg.
