I used store-bought vermicompost in my garden for several years and liked the result (but not the price). That led me to try raising compost worms.
What do your worms like to eat?
Shredded cardboard, coffee grounds, vegetable kitchen and garden scraps, rabbit manure, etc. Our worms will kill for an overripe avocado. ;-)
What kinds of worms do you have?
What worm bins do you use?
I made two 55 gal. pass-through worm bins. They are slightly different from each other. Both are flow-through designs.
How many pounds of garbage do your worms recycle each week?
I don't really know. My focus is quality vermicompost for aerated compost tea, our raised beds and container garden.
I have my two worm bins outside. Our worms made it through the hottest Summer in recorded Texas history. They also survived a fire ant infestation. I stumbled upon how to defeat the fire ants without harming the worms. To me, compost worms are incredible creatures and what they contribute to our garden is invaluable.
