Hi Gene - I just ordered the Euros and they haven't arrived yet - expecting them Thursday. I've got EF's in the Worm Factory and they are doing great - 6 months in. I keep it in the basement and wouldn't hesitate to keep it in the kitchen, if I didn't have the basement. If properly balanced, it doesn't smell at all. I ordered the Euros based on an experiement that Bentley just posted about on his site about throwing some seeds on top of one of his tray bins. I have a couple of long trough-like hard plastic planting boxes that I wasn't using and decided to give it a try too. Bentley has a free shipping deal going on for Euros at his site so I ordered some. I don't plan to mix the worms. Since these are new bins I won't be able to do the planting part for a couple of months but it seems like a good idea! I really like my Worm Factory and hope you will like yours!
Hi Gene, thanks for responding. I almost missed your message in my overload of emails. I'd love to get any advice I can. Are you happy with your choice of worm bin? I've seen so many different kinds, I'm not sure what to start with. I'd love to get a direct email for you, mine is zenroze@gmail.com Feel free to get in touch. Thanks again, Rose
My little fellows are settled in and seem happy at the moment so I am being careful as to how much I feed them at once. I had a problem with little black gnat like flies for a couple of weeks but they are under control now too. I brought a bin in from outside for the winter and believe they came in with it but don't know for sure. I layed a layer of newspaper on top inside the bin and a fly strip on it and that seemed to stop them.
I'll send you a friend request too. I've only had my worms since mid September so I'm not sure about the heat, but I have them in an area that is almost always shaded so the bedding never got very warm. I guess I'll see. I have Red Wigglers and they are the only ones to use for vermicomposting. They are hardy and reproduce very quickly.
Hi, Gene. Thanks for the note. I'm probably closer than you think, as the crow flies. We're about halfway between San Marcos and Kyle, but it's a dead end and no river crossing. Look for a friend request from me so we can chat more privately.
