i have a stackable unit in a full-sized unfinished basement. I notice no problems with humidity. I keep the bin loosely covered and usually have a decent amount of drippings in the collection tray when i check about once a week. my basement is colde…
you're light-years ahead of me. I couldn't identify any of those bugs... fruit flies, yes, but everything else no. I wish I had some advice for you. I wish you luck.
i have a pre-made bin with a vaulted top- but many times find that it gets too moist- so i usually prop it up on one side to allow more ventilation- and then the next time I feed, I change the prop ( 2-3 inch wood block) to the other side to balance…
I was having a bit of a wandering issue with my worms. Nothing major and I've since read that Euros can sometimes be wanderers. Also with the bin being new they may have been restless because of their new surroundings. They seem to be happier now because when I leave the light off I find fewer and fewer escapees so I think that is a good sign. I found an old lamp, screwed in a florescent light bulb and I turn it on at night when it gets dark. It's good insurance and sends any adventurers back into their bin.
Thank you for the well wishes Drue! I've only had my worms for a few weeks but they seem to be doing well. I keep my worms in my bathroom. I have a small home so that was the room with an empty corner perfect size to fit the worm bin and a good place to put them to keep them warm, well lit at night, etc. I have lots of gardners in my family so I'm hoping to give castings & worm tea for mother's day next year! Won't everyone be surprised:) - let's hope pleasantly!
Great to meet ya Drue! I amgoing to go pick up some new worms from the worm lady farm in Michigan this week. I am up visiting family near K-zoo, figure that I can't find a much better source. I had the same results with local nurseries too! Maybe we can start educating our area on the wonders of worms!
