That looks like a great sifting tool. I use 1/4" screen from Home Depot stretched over a Rubbermaid container but your tool looks easier to use. If I ever see one of these, I'll buy one.

I did try the batting. I couldn't get it to stay in place. So i tried landscape fabric. Used caulking to glue it to the plastic lid. I came home tonight to find that the caulking had let go. The fabric worked very well until the caulk let go. So i...

Hi Eve, I'm not sure about what they used in the lid. They have changed the design a little bit, with only an air vent on one side and nothing on the top. Try using the cotton batting and tell us if it worked.

I love the little box with the jail design. Is that cotton batting in the lid. It is such a good idea to keep flies out. I think i will try it on my scraps jar.

that tire system looks really cool. i had seen that once before, but i don't have any available tires... it would be like a flow through system right, starting in the first tire and moving up in tires??

Dear Dora

Have just spent the whole morning looking through all the photos and felt so happy to see that someone else, South Africans nonetheless, are using recycled tyres! I am hoping to start a community project, involving vermicomposting, and look forward to picking up some tips from "the veterans" ;o) - let me know when your little book in conjunction with Charl Pienaar is being published?

Kind regards

Gwen

Hi Dora. I am pleased to see your photos. I am just about to start and I am inspired with what you have shared. I really would want to see how you start from the beginning. What are the things to prepare to start with? Take care. Scleo

Hi Dora- I sent your pic of tyre system to a worm farmer in Knysna who also owns the local tyre shop here. I think it will give him some good ideas! By the way I have relatives who are DuPlessis so maybe we are related? I am impressed by the good work you are doing...
