"First of all....that sounds like you'll be working way TOO hard in my books. But you gotta to do....what you gotta do. Take care...and try not to work too hard."

Plastic worm bin up for grabs in Chicago (Hyde Park neighborhood)

I'm looking for an reliable, enthusiastic person in the Chicago area to take my plastic worm bin. The bin started off with about 1 lb of red wigglers from Pacific Mission Gardens and has been running for about a year. Since it's a very well-established system, I've been able to get away with some cavalier things, such as putting in an entire head of frozen broccoli, or dumping in 20 lbs of food (along with plenty of bedding, of course) before going on a month-long vacation. The worms are…See More

"Oh, that's cute :) Yeah, three weeks in, and I'm definitely having a problem with houseflies. I collected a bunch of late-stage larvae from the catch-tray of my bin because I didn't know what they were, and now I have a jar full of…"

"Hi, Eve. What kind of eggs, exactly, are those? I just started vermicomposting a few weeks ago and noticed that I have a few of those, too, and I worry. Love your video, by the way. Thanks!"

Hi Diane:

I'm new to this site, and I just started a new Group on this site called "Chicago Area Vermicomposters". I thought it would be a great way for the Chicago people to connect.
Go to the Groups page and scroll down to find it. It's on the 2nd page now, since it's brand new.

Hi Diane:

Thanks for the offer, but I've got all I can handle here right now. I live in a high-rise condo with no balcony, so my bin is in the guest bedroom. I've only had it since 5/11, and I'm already dealing with an infestation of fungus gnats. I bought a Luralite bug light to catch the adult flyers, and I just received my shipment of beneficial parasitic nematodes today to put into the bin and take care of the larvae.

Good luck finding a new home for your squirm.
