I brought my worms inside tonight. A little worried about what might wander out of the stack of bins. Hummmm. I did have a giant pan to put under the bin and I closed the drain. Tomorrow I plan to wash the drainage part and clean up the outside. I...

Hi Cathy,
Yeah, I was wondering what that "KISS" system means. I thought it was meant like "kiss the nuking etc. bye bye". So, after reading your comment, I HAD to google it. Now I'm less stupid, lol.
Darni,
the worms would be in AGED manure. So during rodeo time there will be only fresh manure. You can get several bags of them and aged it in your back yard or something and the worms should come when the manure is no longer "hot". From what I read on the forum, it will take a few months for compost to age.
Hi Cathy,
I googled Fort Madison and saw there is a Rodeo Park. Is there a stable nearby or a farm? I find $3.50 for 12 worms pretty expensive. Aged horse manure has EFs in them and if you don't mind poking around in it, you can collect your worms for free.
What I do is defrost it first. By freezing you have pretty much disapated the deomposing heat. Aged cow manure is a good summer food so is precomposted grass clippings. I mix a lot of paper with the grass, when the grass turns brown, I feed it to the worms.
Yes carbons sorry. I freeze my fresh waste first to disapate the decomposing energy. Freezing speeds up the decomposition process.
And I give my bins a gentle watering. The evaporation causes it to cool much like the human body. I also leave the lid off and cover it with burlap.
Do you per chance use a thermometer to check the bin?
hi Cathy, the pics are on my page, have you photos of your bin?

About Me:
Recycling is very important 2 me and this looked like something I could do. I have enjoyed this hobby very much and also enjoy sharing what I know about vermicomposting with other people. Another thing I enjoy doing is one of my businesses which is Luna Promotionals (see web page) I would love to find a cute worm image and create a bag or t-shirt.
I was looking for a place...like this on facebook....I enjoy reading about vermicomposting. I found a few places but it looks like hardly anyone chats or blogs. Can this site be hooked up to facebook? Just a thought... Cathy
