Vermicomposting, worm bin, composting with worms community and forums

This is a Good Grip OXO food chopper that I picked up last night at Bed, Bath and Beyond. When I was first getting my worm bin going I was blending the food because I was worried there wasn't enough small organic matter in my brand new setup, but lately I've been scaling back to just chopping things up if they aren't small enough to make sure they are eaten quickly. I decided to get this to make my life a little easier (and it can help me chop human food too!).. i haven't used it yet though.. i'll let you know how it goes.

Good idea. I was wondering what to do with my chopper. I hardly used it and and last Sunday, I brought it out to show my girlfriend how inefficient it is to chop onions (I showed her how to diced an onion with a proper chef's knife.) I was going to donate it but I will try it out of our worms.

Yes this comes apart into 3 peices for cleaning and is very easy to disassemble / reassemble.

I have one like this from Ikea, does yours come apart for cleaning? My doesn't and little food bits end up where the blade retracts. I decided to dedicate mine to only scraps since I can't thoroughly clean it, and the worms don't care. I won't mind having one that could be disassembled for cleaning. My mom had one when I was young that was a jar with a similar knife action, does anyone know if there is one like that out there?

I still really enjoy using this... for worm food as well as for human food. Thanks for all the comments on this photo!

I have a similar chopper from pampered chef, but i've been using my electric food processor. great idea about not using the electricity for the worms, especially since i have a chopper.

I read that too and cut things with a knife to begin with. I used a food processor for the first time a few days ago. I'll look in to the chopper. The smaller the bits going in, the more consistent product you'll have (I read somewhere). I've recently finished my 1st harvest at 3 months and the 'product' was rather inconsistent. We'll see if there's any difference this time. You sure learn patience with this hobby!

I think I read something in "Worms Eat My Garbage" about how she didn't like using electricity in the recycling process which got me thinking more about "weaning" my worms off of blended food sooner.

Well I took a cue from your post. My daughter and I were shopping at whole foods and saw this on one of the isles.
It looks very solid and well built. I like the idea of not having to chop the stuff in the food processor and waste energy, and besides I was getting tired of hand chopping the veggies.
