Vermicomposting, worm bin, composting with worms community and forums

I saw Nathan S had uploaded some photos of his compost jar so I figured I would do the same. As a "holding bin" for kitchen scraps before they went into the worm bin, I used to keep a small bowl near the kitchen sink with a colander covering it to protect it from the flies, but I had a couple problems [1] there were small fruit fly like flies that were still able to get in and [2] the food on the bottom of the pile in my little bowl would still go anaerobic and smell. So I came up with this sealed container which keeps the flies out and I just keep it in my fridge to keep it from going anaerobic. This has also been handy since it is large enough to "buffer" the food I feed to the worms since my eating/cooking habits are not so regular but I like to try to keep a steady stream of kitchen scraps going to my worm bin. This way if I don't cook as much during a particular week I can still feed them scraps from last week.
