Hi,just interested to know who's been doing this for the longest period?I thought I was a real juvenile but then I saw some other members started after me.
I just started back in sept. Am amazed how fast the membership here has grown though. My number is something like 360 and I just joined a couple months ago. Now there are almost 600. I think that is way cool.
I started Vermicomposting in 2003 I believe, Its been a while. I had finished undergoing treatment for cancer and going through a real depression, My worms were my escape and it was quite frequently that one could find me digging in the bin and it always made me feel better. I kind of ignored them now for some time but now I am back in the swing of things and tending to them daily wanting to see the population explore once again. so I guess right now I am the Senior in here.
I've been at it in one way or another since 1999!!
Bought a huge big composter with gravel drainage at the bottom, and a door just above that to harvest from. It took years to get to a level worth harvesting, although I did scrape some vermicompost out most springs for my containers. There was much less information about worming back then, and I shudder to think how many worms I murdered along the way- but they kept coming back. Now I have much healthier flow through systems, and they deal with a huge amount of waste, along with partly composted horse manure I get from the stables my daughter has recently started riding in.
Grew some great tomatoes, beans and salads with the compost this year-(and the slugs got a great feed too grrrr)
